The docks are in - Spring season officially begins!

Today the team came together for our annual Spring work day. Without a cloud in the sky and with temperatures in the 80s, the crew make quick work of the arduous process of putting the docks in the water. All-in-all it was a pretty uneventful day, which is a good thing considering the size and weight of the docks. Read more for some entertaining photos of the process.

At the end of our fall season we have to remove our dock sections and put the boats in storage. Consequently, the first "practice" of our spring season consists of the reverse process. Today we moved the boats and their respective parts out of storage and down to the field. Additionally, we cleaned and organized the sail shed and took inventory of spare parts. The main event of the day was the dreaded moving of the docks. Our dock system is brand new and absolutely wonderful (the team built it specifically for sailing), but unfortunately it is also incredibly heavy. Local bylaws limit the number of sections that we can have in the water over the summer, so today we only had to move two of the six sections into the water. It took a lot of strength (and wading in some very cold water) but the docks are now in the water and anchored. With a very minimal amount of additional work we should be up and running for spring practices as well as Rec sailing (that's right, we have decided to hold several Rec sailing days this spring - stay tuned for updates).
