FAQs
Do I need any special gear or clothing?
No, we will provide life jackets and all of the equipment necessary for the boats; however, most people wear swimsuits or clothing that they don't mind getting wet (non-cotton clothing is best). We try to schedule our PE classes and Rec sailing days during the warmest parts of the season, but sometimes it can be a little cold anyway, so dress accordingly. It is always better to have too many layers than too few - you can always shed a sweatshirt or jacket. Finally, sunglasses and sunscreen are always recommended as it can be very bright out on the water.
Rec sailing is on for the Spring season! The Middlebury College Sailing Club is pleased to announce that we will be holding three days of rec sailing before exams. Here is all you need to know:
- Who: Anyone! You don't have to have any prior sailing experience to come to Rec sailing. We will pair you with an experienced sailor so you can just sit back and enjoy the experience (or learn to sail!).
- What: Rec sailing is a free program provided by the Middlebury College Sailing Club. It is run along side our racing and PE programs
- When: There will be Rec sailing on April 23rd, April 30th and May 7th from 3 to 5 pm. Obviously this is contingent upon the weather, so please check this page and/or sign up for the Rec sailing email list for the latest updates.
- Where: We will be meeting at ADK for the drive down. We may have some space in our personal cars, but please contact us (either by email or in person) if you need a ride (otherwise you can just follow us in your own car). If there is enough demand we may consider renting vans - so please let us know if you're interested and stay tuned!
LATEST UPDATE: We had a great turnout yesterday (4/23) with over 8 boats in the water and some of the best wind we've ever seen on Lake Dunmore. Despite the water being a bit chilly (and air temps were around 60 degrees), everyone seemed to be pretty comfortable with a fleece or light jacket. The team had a great time working with new sailors and we're looking forward to seeing more new faces in the coming weeks. That being said, it looks like we're going to have another beautiful Friday this coming week, with temperatures in the upper 60s. So grab some friends and let's go sailing!
